HAPPINESS HOTEL

I teamed up with Culture Card and Love Life Productions, two Winnipeg based event organizers, to design a provocative environment for a 500 guest New Years Eve bash, hosted at the Fairmount Hotel ballroom, Winnipeg, MB.

The exciting design constraint for the project was that all decorations for the party were limited to the use of light projections. We collaborated with PSAV Lighting to produce all projections for the event.

The party’s theme was 1920’s Winnipeg: underground artists’ scene. My design process started by studying New York’s dance and Jazz scene of the 1920’s. With my research findings I created two stop-frame animations to be projected as “digital wall paper” on ballroom walls.

I used Photoshop to collage the frames, and Powerpoint to time the batch of frames so they became “animated”. After trouble shooting, I stretched the dimensions of the frame to suite PSAV projection specs, and they appeared visually proportionate in real time projection.
